Freelance cellist

Based in Seattle, currently working as a performer, dance class accompanist, teacher and studio musician. Discography and performances include work with David Byrne, Nirvana, the Presidents of the United States of America, Bush, Larry Barrett, the Old Joe Clarks, Jeff Greinke, Lori Carson, Laura Love, Gluebound, Citizens' Utilities, Nancy Wilson, Flipp, Ed Pias, Elizabeth Falconer, John Doe, and Corporal Blossom. Accomplished in a wide variety of styles, including classical, world music, rock and free improvisation. 1983 to present.

Black Cat Orchestra - In collaboration with Kyle Hanson, currently directing, arranging and composing for, and performing with an seven-piece ensemble. Venues have included the Meany Hall, On the Boards, Seattle Art Museum, Portland Art Museum, Northwest Folklife Festival, Bumbershoot Arts Festival, KUOW, Washington State University, New Music Across America and the O.K. Hotel. Featured on National Public Radio's This American Life and All Things Considered. 1991 to present.

The Long String Instrument - Ongoing collaboration with Ellen Fullman. Recorded work included in "Volume: Bed of Sound" at P.S.122 in New York. Currently working as arranger for an commisioned collaborative work for the Kronos Quartet. 1998 to present.

"The Life of the Jews in Palestine" - currently composing an original live score for a newly-discovered 1913 silent documentary, commisioned by the Seattle Jewish Film Festival. Seattle, 2001.

Rob Kitsos - Currently composing a score for a new dance piece to be premiered in June, 2001.

University of Washington Dance Department - Currently employed as a ballet and modern dance class accompanist. Seattle,1999- 2001.

33 Fainting Spells - Recorded and co-produced Kyle Hanson's score for their internationally- touring dance theater works Maria the Storm Cloud and September September. 1998-2000.

Yankl Falk - Perform traditional klezmer music with Yankl Falk, Lev Liberman, Sandra Layman and Kyle Hanson. Seattle and Portland, OR, 2000 to present.

Latif Bolat - Performed traditional Turkish devotional music. Seattle and Portland, OR, 2001.

Seattle Repertory Theater - Recorded music for "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Seattle, 2001.

Intiman Theater - Recorded music for "A Question of Mercy". Seattle,1999.

Nirvana - Toured North America as a cellist. Appeared on MTV's Unplugged, and on the Unplugged in New York album. 1993-1994.

Volunteer Park Conservatory Orchestra - Performed with David Mahler's 1930's jazz orchestra. Seattle,1992-1996.

Composition of silent film scores - Composed, directed and performed original soundtracks for over forty early silent films. Venues have included the Fine Arts Cinema in Berkeley,CA, the Olympia Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, Portland Art Museum, the Heights Theater in Minneapolis, and Seattle's Grand Illusion Theater and Pike Street Cinema. 1988 to present.

"The Clouds That Touch Us From Clear Skies" - Composed and recorded soundtrack for a documentary by Lynn Shelton. Winner of the Northwest Film Festival's Best Documentary Award. 2000.

Seattle Parks Department PSA - Composed and recorded soundtrack. Winner of Best Music Video Award at the 2000 International Wildlife Film Festival, in Boseman, MT. 1999.

David Byrne - Arranged, co-produced and performed with the Black Cat Orchestra for David Byrne's album, Feelings. 1997.

Black Cat Orchestra - Currently co-producing a second full-length CD with Kyle Hanson. Produced a full-length album in 1996.

The Post Office - Produced and composed music for a radio play by Stacey Levine. Funded by Jack Straw Productions' Artist Support Program. Seattle, 1996.

The Affluent Father - In collaboration with Kyle Hanson and Friese Undine, composed, directed and performed music for an original object theater piece as part of On the Board, Seattle. 1995.

Milk of Amnesia - With Kyle Hanson, composed, directed and recorded an original soundtrack for a feature film. 1994.

Last Year's Bird's Nest - With Kyle Hanson, composed, arranged and performed music for an original dance/theater work by Dayna Hanson. On the Boards, Seattle. 1993.

The Run/Remain Ensemble - Co-founded a multi-media performance group. Co-produced theater/dance pieces for On the Boards, New City Theater, Bumbershoot Festival and the Belltown Coliseum. With Kyle Hanson, directed, composed for and performed with the Run/Remain Orchestra. 1988-1990.
